We are very happy to welcome Matt Bush of Haycroft Media as an official speaker at WordCamp Cape Town 2011. Matt will host a session on the Developer track. We caught up with him online and asked him to tell us a bit more about his talk and his thoughts on WordPress.
Why WordPress?
Why not? I’ve yet to find another CMS that matches up.
Why did you decide to speak at WordCamp Cape Town?
Ashley Shaw asked me too, which was an incredible honour, my Father is a very successful speaker so its time I knocked him off his perch, and most importantly, I love WordPress and welcome any chance to give something back to the WordPress community. I also hope to use the platform to raise support for a few personal agendas such as banning Internet Explorer immediately.
What is your talk going to be about?
I am going to be talking about ‘Improving Ease of Use with the WordPress Admin Dashboard’. From my experience of making WordPress sites for clients, and for clients in South Africa in particular, there are a lot of people out there who get over-whelmed if updating their site isn’t quick and easy and involves too many menus and processes. As developers I think we can get too caught up in how clever we are being, without considering the needs of the end user. My talk aims to put across some solutions I’ve come across for making the whole process of updating a site as painless and simple as possible.
What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Cape Town?
Listening to the other speakers and going home with a head full of fresh ideas.
What is the one thing you want people to walk away with from your talk?
I’d like them to walk away with lots of new ideas (and a desire to use my company would be nice as well!).
What is your favourite WordPress theme and/or plugin, and why?
Far too many to mention, and depends on the circumstances. I’m currently doing a lot of work using the Canvas framework, and enjoying playing with some of the mobile plugins.
