Long-time community member Ashley Shaw has been hard work at work putting together what is sure to be a hugely valuable and fun day for anyone involved in WordPress agency development. This event will be connected to WordCamp Cape Town 2015 and will be happening the day after WordCamp is finished. It is open to anyone to attend (even if you don’t attend WordCamp), but it is targeted primarily at WordPress agencies. So without further ado – here’s Ashley to tell you all about it!
At WordCamp Europe in Seville in late June this year, Noel Tock from Human Made challenged me to organise a WordPress Agency meetup in Cape Town, South Africa.
Event planning is well underway, take a look at the details planned so far – https://hackpad.com/WordPress-Agency-Meetup-Cape-Town-jF2hIDr8CTc.
Meetup date: Saturday, September 12th 2015
Meeting time: 08h30
Meeting point: Ferris Wheel, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
The first meetup will be a test of the idea of setting up regular agency meetups in the future. We will keep it small, with representatives from a group of agencies joining the discussion, focussing on bringing agencies together in an informal setting to connect businesses, build networks and promote collaboration.
Due to the event being connected to WordCamp Cape Town and happening the day after the WordCamp event, we are excited to announce that we will have some international guests joining us for this meetup.
We have also been lucky enough to land some sponsorship from WP-Rocket for the day’s activities.
We will be meeting at the “Ferris Wheel” at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, then catching a minibus to Paarl where the day will start with a cheese tasting at Fairview, a nice way for us to ease into the day with each other. Next we will head over to the Spice Route, where we’ll start off the discussions.
- Session 1 will be about “Balancing Projects” and will be facilitated by Ashley Shaw.
- Lunch Break (at Spice Route)
- Session 2 will be about “Building a Team”, touching on an array of topics from hiring people to discussing the implications of utilising remote or distributed teams. This session will be facilitated by Johann van Tonder.
We will leave Paarl around 16h00 to return to the V&A Waterfront.
This will be our first WordPress agency meetup and we will be experimenting with the format and content of the discussion sessions to give us a good idea of what works and how to plan the next meetups, we are really keen to make this a fairly regular gathering.
