WordCamp Cape Town 2019 is around the corner! Are you as excited as us?
Here are some tips to make the best of your WordCamp experience:
- Don’t stress: unless you are an organising member – relax! WordCamps are informal and follow a general structure, along the lines of:
- Registration
- Opening remarks
- Morning sessions
- Lunch
- Afternoon sessions
- Closing remarks
- Roll with it: download the detailed schedule onto your phone, pick out the sessions that interest you most, create a personal itinerary and roll with it
- WordCamp is for everyone: many different people attend WordCamp who work with WordPress in a variety of ways, check out the list of attendee’s who you may want to make contact with and introduce yourself when you see them at WordCamp
- Don’t be shy: WordCamps are safe environments to network and learn, so take advantage, introduce yourself to speakers and ask questions – there are no stupid questions
- Keep it casual: WordCamps are casual events, you will learn a lot in two days and the last thing you want is to be distracted because you are uncomfortable, wear something that you will be comfy in
- Take advantage of the lunch break: don’t sit alone at lunch, find an open space and ask if you can sit down, you never know who you will meet
- Have fun: the point of WordCamp is to learn, engage with others and take part in the larger WordPress community, so enjoy it!
