How to make the best of your WordCamp experience

WordCamp Cape Town 2019 is around the corner! Are you as excited as us?

Here are some tips to make the best of your WordCamp experience:

  • Don’t stress: unless you are an organising member – relax! WordCamps are informal and follow a general structure, along the lines of:
    • Registration
    • Opening remarks
    • Morning sessions
    • Lunch
    • Afternoon sessions
    • Closing remarks
  • Roll with it: download the detailed schedule onto your phone, pick out the sessions that interest you most, create a personal itinerary and roll with it
  • WordCamp is for everyone: many different people attend WordCamp who work with WordPress in a variety of ways, check out the list of attendee’s who you may want to make contact with and introduce yourself when you see them at WordCamp
  • Don’t be shy: WordCamps are safe environments to network and learn, so take advantage, introduce yourself to speakers and ask questions – there are no stupid questions
  • Keep it casual: WordCamps are casual events, you will learn a lot in two days and the last thing you want is to be distracted because you are uncomfortable, wear something that you will be comfy in
  • Take advantage of the lunch break: don’t sit alone at lunch, find an open space and ask if you can sit down, you never know who you will meet
  • Have fun: the point of WordCamp is to learn, engage with others and take part in the larger WordPress community, so enjoy it!
