Joel is just another guy from suburbs of Los Angeles who stumbled his way to South Africa, found the woman of his dreams & fell ass-backward into the world of tech & eComm. He’s one of just a few people that have managed to work at both WooCommerce (Automattic) and more recently Shopify where he worked on strategic and channel partnerships. This year he’s been cutting his teeth consulting to tech companies on the topics of building partner programs and internationalization as he re-settles in Cape Town.

When I’m not writing code, you can find me spending time with my children, training Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and helping others in my local WordPress community.

I came to Cape Town from London in the noughties for a year, to take a break from being a successful but unfulfilled Senior Manager in the Water IndustryI liked it here, stayed, got married, made three children, travelled through Africa, started a band and rode 12 Argus Cycle Tours.Not in that order.I now run the small, but beautifully formed, Thinking Space Web providing:Consultancy – Helping people understand what is possible.
Development – Building stuff that works.
Management – Making stuff work even better.The tiny amount of “me time” that I have is largely dedicated to Bass Guitar and Goalkeeping.

I originally studied journalism and worked as a writer for engineering, mining and automotive magazines, as well as internal business communications. Wanting to become more involved in the tech industry I applied and got a job at Semantica Digital where I am now an enthusiastic social media strategist, aspiring search engine optimisation guru, and a seasoned copywriter. I am passionate about learning and sharing knowledge.

Tasneem Rutgers

My name is Tasneem Rutgers. I have worked for Signet Licensing since 2007 and I am now in my 4th RWC at the company, which is the highlight cycle of our business every 4 years.

I studied a Post Grad in Sports Management and completed my MBA. I am WordPress/WooCommerce self taught and with asking SP’s lots of questions.

Shannon McLaughlin

Shannon is the Founder of Ubuntu Baba, a primarily online business selling organic hemp baby carriers using WooCommerce. Before Ubuntu Baba, she was a freelance web designer, working for herself since 2004 and began working exclusively with WordPress in 2011.

Anchen le Roux

Anchen le Roux is the CEO and lead developer of Simply Digital Design a boutique studio in Pretoria Here she specialises in delivering solutions to photographers or creatives and the experience around creating a website.

She has a passion for everything WordPress and loves being part and contributing to the WP community.

Anchen is passionate about green, simple and nomadic living and occasionally find time to play the bass guitar.

Stephen Amaza is a Customer Success Manager for User Operations at Paystack, an online payments company that processes over a quarter of the online payments in Nigeria.

He helps developers and business owners leverage Paystack’s tools and API to power growth in their business.

Over 30,000 business of all sizes – from startups to government agencies – use Paystack’s software to collect online and offline payments from customers all over the world.

Before Paystack, Stephen founded web development company, Codaye, where he led a team of designers and developers to build products for tech startups.

Hugh Lashbrooke

I am a Community Manager for WordPress, sponsored by Automattic. I’ve been a lover of WordPress since 3.0 — especially its extensibility — and I’ve come to be fully immersed in the code, community and culture of WordPress. I speak and blog about the WordPress community, crafting plugins, open-source, and community management. Though I’m a developer at heart, my passion is to work on programs that support the worldwide WordPress community. Lyle Bennett

Cape Townian born and bred. I have been a web developer for the past 4 years, self taught learning mostly on the job. Working mostly in wordpress. While working at Webworx in Wynberg, Cape Town, we have created many websites and solutions for our clients using WordPress and woocommerce. These solutions have involved building custom plugins, designs, themes / child themes and recently custom Gutenberg blocks. I would be happy to share the knowledge I have at wordcamp Cape Town.
